My last post on a “Christian” blogger named Tim High generated some heat. He put up this post in a feeble attempt to rebut it. The sad thing was, I never said what he claims I said.
If anyone wants to know the definition of a Strawman argument is, Timmy just provided a working example. Notice how much easier it is to argue with Strawman scohen, who said that he values the lives of terrorists more than his family. Did I say that? No, I didn’t, but that doesn’t stop our “Christian” friend from saying I did. Didn’t the bible have something in it about bearing false witness against your neighbor? Nah, couldn’t have been that.
Some people might call this behavior lying. I’m inclined to agree with them.

Scott,
Rest assured that not all Christians agree with such things. I’m a Christian. In fact, I’m a conservative Christian. Indeed, I’m probably far more conservative than the gentleman mentioned in your post above… which is why I hold the ideas that I do. For example, giving government more power to do things like forcible interrogations, etc, is inherently not conservative. It fits into the “neo-conservative” view of life, but it conserves nothing: it merely gives government more power. Likewise, while US law is written for people in the US, that doesn’t mean that we ought to treat people from outside the US any old way we want. I figure a person who might be classified as a terrorist is one of two things: either a combatant, or a criminal. If a combatant, then they’re to be treated IAW the Geneva Convention. If a criminal, then a speedy and fair trial is requisite. I don’t see where we get this “nether-region” of undefined “bad person” to whom we can do anything.
Anyhow. The real reason I came here to scohen.org was to ask a question about jUploadr! I was googling “juploadr rotate” to figure out if I can rotate images in jUploadr. A blog post of yours that I came across said yes. However, I can’t for the life of me figure it out in jUploadr 1.1.1. I may just be dense.
Thanks.
And yes, bearing false witness is one of the Ten Commandments, which means it falls under the purview of the second greatest commandment, love your neighbor as yourself; a New Testament-sounding commandment, but actually quoted by Jesus from Deuteronomy. I am grieved at those Christians who poorly represent Christ by taking the emphasis off of Him. Yes, the military is important to our safety. Heck, I’m -in- the military. But as a Christian, Tim should be leaning less on the institutions of this world, striving “to live in peace with all men”, and finding his confidence/security in Christ rather than strength of arms.

Notice the quotes around Christian.
Maybe you should talk to Tim, I don’t think he’d know what to do with you.
