Rahul,
A cursory glance at ActiveRecord's documentation indicates that you can perform introspection on an active record object's columns fairly easily using the columns method on any Active Record object.

That said, I don't think ActiveRecord can discover table names, I'm not sure it does any validation that when you create an object. Then again, I'm not really authoratative on that subject.

Would highly appreciate if someone could tell me how to discover the tables in a database in ruby or rails. Without hardcoding db specific calls.

The ActiveRecord API doesn't seem to have anything, although it should.
Checked OG also, can't find anything.
DbTalk hardcodes mysql and postgres specific calls for metadata.

Pls respond to me on rahul_kumar at yahoo.com asap.

I need to get the tablenames, then certain table's columns names, and then their column info - something like phpMyadmin.

There is a pretty good article on Rails routes here: http://manuals.rubyonrails.com/read/chapter/65.

But, yes, indeed, it's hard to find Ruby/Rails documentation.

Two weeks to convert one page to CSS automatically qualifies you as a brain dead designer. At most, the task should take a day, especially when someone is paying good money to have it done.
