I released jUploadr 0.7 today. It supports the new authentication API so Yahoo! users can log in with their yahoo name. It also doesn’t store your password locally, or transfer it over the internet (thanks new authentication API!).
I also fixed a bunch of usability issues that were brought to my attention, as well as a couple of the open bugs.
In addition, I’m pleased to say that jUploadr got its first donation this week. I thank you, anonymous donor. Here’s to many more uploads.

How does it feel to get paid for something you do for free? Your stuff must be good.

Would it be possible to be able to upload the pictures in chronological EXIF date-taken order (as a configurable option) so the photostream remains sorted reverse-chronologically on Flickr?

Hi
I did not know about JUploadr until today when I was browsing the forum posts.
I actually developed a commandline tool to upload photos to Flickr, because I could not find a decent Flickr uploading client for Linux. Check it out here.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jflickruploader
I was a bit disappointed that there was already a Java based tool to upload photos to Flickr. But anyway, I am glad I did not know about this earlier, or else I would have had no motivation to do some hacking on my own.

Deepak

R.B. Boyer: I could indeed make that an option. You should submit a feature request on jUploadr’s home page
Just click navigate to the feature request page and go nuts.
The good news is that I can read EXIF tags. The bad news is that I can’t write them… yet.

Deepak:
Why the disappointment? jUploadr rocks
You should give it a shot even though you wrote your own tool. It does a lot for you, and it’ll do even more in the near future. I aim to give Linux users (actually, it runs on every major OS) a tool that’s better than the flickr uploader. So far, I say it’s on par with theirs, as it’s missing a couple of features, but seems to handle their own login API better than their own tool.

Hi, just been trying your uploader, looks great but I can’t make
it work.
I’m using 0.7 windows version, but I don’t see where can I put
my login info, help!

That’s the beauty of their new login API, you NEVER need to enter your login credentials in third party applications.
All you need to do is go to Preferences ->Account and press the large button marked ‘Authorize jUploadr’.
Follow the instructions in the pop-up windows, and you’ll be all set in three clicks.
Hope this helps

Hi mr Scohen, thanks for the prompt reply.
I do the steps:
- Drag picture
- go to edit > settings > Account
- press the authorize button
and I get this message:
“Invalid email address or password”
on a small error window
and if I put a proxy address and click ok, the program abruptly exits.
I also installed from the flickr homepage the official uploadr (oddly that one works).
thanks
machine specs:
juploadr 0.7 (windows)
jre1.5.0_03
windows XP
zonealarm (turned it off)
privoxy (but used a direct connection)

Ok, you’re actually experiencing two bugs. In 0.7, you can’t edit your settings without authorizing first, so that explains crash if you enable proxy settings.
As for the not being able to authorize, I really don’t have any idea why you can’t connect, but you should at least get a dialog box explaining the authorization process before you get any errors.
Have you sucessfully authorized before?
Also, you didn’t include your actual email address in your post, which causes two problems.
1. You need to be approved to post
2. I can’t help you via email.
If you post again, make sure to include your actual email, you won’t get spam, as it’s not displayed on the site at all.

Hi again, I tried both prior versions, 0.6 and 0.5 but
I couldn’t make them work, that is, they didn’t run in
my PC.
I have also tried leaving a browser window open (Iexplorer and Firefox) and logged in, but with no success. I don’t know what could be broken in my PC that it doesn’t open the authorize window, which I think would be the next step after pressing the authorize button.
There’s a dialog box that appears after the “invalid email address or password”, I press cancel and it says: “Couldn’t read the response from flickr”.
Using the official flickr uploadr, I have succesfully authorized my account, even when changing my username nick.
thanks.

Hi,
Just want to say great tool. It was the only app that I could find for linux that seems to handle the new authentication API. AFAIK thats probably not a problem for those using flickr prior to recent changes that force you to now log in through yahoo and I fall into that category. Just wondering though do you intend to release the source, didn’t see a link for it on sourceforge.
anyway keep up the great work

Noel
The source is available, I just don’t make a source package available for download. If you want to experiment, just download the source via anonymous CVS.
Here are instructions for connecting via CVS
Also, thank you for the compliment. I’m really excited about 0.8, which I think is a marked improvement over 0.7

great thanks, I’ll check it out ( if you pardon the pun )
