It’s sad when something that you used to work on goes to shit, but it appears that I can safely say that officemax.com is now a big pile of steaming crap. I check up on the site periodically, just to see if they made any changes to CopyMax (they hadn’t), and the damn thing didn’t even display correctly in firefox. The officemax.com developers should be drawn and quartered for not even passing the front page through firefox to check it out. I mean, it’s only the second most popular browser, why would you bother checking to see if your site works in it or not?

Especially troubling is that the site once looked good in mozilla/firefox. I know, I was there and we used to check it. Hell, we developed it on firefox first and then made it look good in IE as an afterthought. Back then, we had people that were proud of the site, now it appears that theyll settle for any slop that they throw together.

Sadly, there is no consistent look and feel to the site any more (not that I was ever a fan of the design, but before at least it was consistent). On the copymax page, the start button is red, yet on the cart page the start button is a horrible shade of green. And who picked that hue anyway? It looks like Homer Simpson’s plutonium rod. I also counted multiple shades of yellow, and inconsistent fonts throughout the site. They even use font tags. Amazing. Interestingly, they’ve also kept the absolutely horrendous CSS, which names elements for how they look –the exact opposite of what good semantic CSS does. I also counted THIRTY tables on the front page. Jeebus people, do you realize that you can create a border with one line of CSS rather than two tables?

The site is a total disaster, and I’m seriously considering taking it off my resume. I’m very sad that something that I worked so hard to make cool has atrophied like it has, I guess people do matter.

Oh, one more thing, CopyMax people… the store locator under copymax lost its Shanghai, you really should put it back, since it’s really disconcerting to suddenly have the headers and footers go away.

Freaking amateurs.
