My Frenemy, Paul was on My Coolest Years on VH1 yesterday, and it was hilarious. He, like me, was a big geek in high school, but he took his geekdom to levels I never thought possible. His senior caption in his yearbook was an obfuscated computer program that spelled out –get this– “Dual Disk Drives”. Apparently, at the time, he thought it was some really devious sexual reference. I probably would have agreed with him, had I been in fourth grade.
In all, the show was a bit too frenetic for my taste, but in the end, almost every geek got his revenge. Paul brought his gorgeous and intelligent wife on the show to prove that geekdom pays. It reminds me of my own life when I finally had a job, and a nice car and was on a date with a beautiful woman and needed to get gas, and the guy at the station was the guy who would beat me up at lunch. There is nothing so satisfying as seeing your former tormenter visibly break in front of your eyes when confronted by your success.
Way to go Paul.
