Can the Republicans win this election without sliming the Democrats? Apparently not.
I was in San Francisco this week trying to find an apartment, and when I got back, I had 11 messages on my answering machine. Now, being a loser, they’re all from campaigns, and it’s interesting to note the tone of each.
The democrats accounted for five of the messages, and their strategy is best summed up by “this is an important election, and we urge you to vote for John Kerry”. One of the messages listed some of Kerry’s accomplishments, but none had the vile tone of the Republican ones. It’s also interesting to note that all but one of the Democratic messages were delivered by real people.
The Republican messages –all pre-recorded– were absolutely disgusting. One stated that John Kerry would “Wait for France’s approval before defending America”. Another stated that it was actually Democrats that were preventing black voters from voting in Florida. Is slime all the Republicans have any more? Is that their tactic? It’s truly pathetic when their party has four years of record to run on, but can’t find a single policy to highlight.
I can’t wait until Tuesday, and let me tell you, that slime will not be rewarded.
